'The Mentalist' duo poised to exit?

The Mentalist might be losing two original castmembers this year, in what series creator Bruno Heller is calling a “game changing season.”

TVLine first reported the planned departures of Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman, who have played Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby on all five seasons of the CBS hit. While Heller could “neither confirm or deny” the duo’s season 6 exits in a statement to EW, he teased, “This is the most dramatic and game changing season and anything can happen.”

When EW caught up with Heller in May, after the seven Red John suspects were seemingly revealed in the season 5 finale, the creator gave fans some hints about what the future held for Righetti and Yeoman’s sometimes-romantic relationship.

“They’ve always been in love with each other,” he told us. “As we get closer to Red John, all of the team members will start thinking about their major life decisions. That applies to both Lisbon [Robin Tunney’s character] and Grace. They haven’t been able to look to their own feelings. As the show rolls on, those feelings will come to the fore.”

We’ll have to wait and see how that saga will play out with these potential departures. The Mentalist returns Sunday, Sept. 29, on CBS.
