Amanda Bynes: 'Gravely disabled,' psychiatric hold extended

Amanda Bynes’ psychiatric hold has been extended for 30 days, according to TMZ. Bynes underwent a series of dramatic (and very public) episodes in recent months before being involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital two weeks ago. Doctors evaluating the actress told judges she is “gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder” in their recommendation for the extension. According to TMZ’s sources, the judge overseeing the case visited Bynes at the medical facility and granted doctors’ request.

The 27-year-old former child star was scheduled to attend a court hearing this morning to determine whether she’d be placed under a conservatorship overseen by her parents. The evaluation will rule out that possibility, but Bynes’ parents can still pursue a temporary conservatorship that would grant them financial control over their daughter.

At time of press, EW was unable to contact Bynes.
