Cher's virtual reality closet from 'Clueless' could soon be a reality

The only thing that inspired more fashion envy than Cher Horowitz’s clothes in the 1995 flick Clueless? The fact that she had a virtual reality computer program to put together her killer outfits.

Nearly 20 years later, it looks like Cher’s closet of the future may soon be a reality.

Back in March, Mashable brought us the story of Swivel, a digital dressing room created by interactive marketing company FaceCake. The virtual try-on software allows users to see what they’d look like wearing various items of clothing and accessories without having to actually try anything on. And Swivel’s technology is even more advanced than Cher’s closet!

While the Clueless character’s software used a one-dimensional picture, Swivel captures the subject as a live 3-D model. Plus, you can try on makeup — or see what you’d look like with Beyonce’s blonde pixie cut without actually having to chop off all your hair.

For now, Swivel is only available in select retail stores, but it’s only a matter of time before someone with a lot of clothes — and money to burn — commissions one for use in her own closet. Who would dare miss out on the opportunity to live out her Clueless fashion fantasy? As if!
