After 10 years on TLC, What Not To Wear is hanging up its chic hat tonight with a three-hour series finale. Over the course of the show, hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly have established a sweet spot between style gurus and life coaches — quick with a quip and unafraid to pull rank on some of their more reluctant contributors (we’re looking at you, season 4’s D.C. nanny Lynn!). Of course, that isn’t to say they didn’t appreciate a little sass: “I like the tough ones,” Stacy says. “I like the ones who make us defend our honor, so to speak, and really explain what we’re trying to do because it was never about criticism, only about showing people that they had options.”

Tonight sees the return of many of the women Clinton and Stacy have styled during a reunion wrap-up. “It was overwhelming. It was really like, ‘This is your life,'” Stacy laughs. “I have never experienced anything like it. It felt completely surreal to see so many people who have meant so much and who we have had such an intimate interaction with.”

Calling the two-hour finale “the most organic end for a show,” Stacy says, “I feel very fortunate that we were able to know a season in advance that we were going to end it because we got to say thank you, we really got to acknowledge what it meant to have these people let go — even those who put up a fight — and let us show them their potential.”

When asked to look back on more than 300 episodes worth of makeovers, Stacy has to admit, “I don’t have a favorite. So many people have asked me that, and I feel like it’s kind of comparing apples to oranges. Everybody has a different sense of transformation, and it was a different journey for so many people.”
