Casting Net: Channing Tatum in talks for 'Bad Romance'

Magic Mike star Channing Tatum is in early talks to produce and star in Bad Romance for writer and director Jonathan Levine (50/50). No details about the plot were revealed. Tatum can be seen next in Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, recently bumped to a 2014 release, and 22 Jump Street. He also voices the part of Superman in The Lego Movie. [THR]

12 Years a Slave antagonist Michael Fassbender is in talks to play a man who wants out of the family business in the gangster pic Trespass Against Us. Adam Smith, who has directed episodes of Doctor Who and Skins, will make his feature debut on the project. [Deadline]

• Bill Murray will voice a villain in DreamWorks Animation’s B.O.O: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations, already scheduled for a June 5, 2015 release. The star-studded voice cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Seth Rogen, Octavia Spencer, and Jennifer Coolidge. Anthony Leondis (Igor) is directing. [The Wrap]

• Dan Aykroyd and Jill Scott have boarded the James Brown biopic Get On Up for director Tate Taylor (The Help). 42 star Chadwick Boseman leads the cast as James Brown, Aykroyd will play the president of the agency Universal Attractions, and Scott will be Brown’s wife. [THR]

• Alan Arkin, Diane Keaton, Annette Bening, Theo James (Downton Abbey), and Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables) are all in talks to star as a family in the Christmas comedy The Most Wonderful Time. I Am Sam’s Jessie Nelson is directing, and Stepmom’s Steven Rogers is responsible for the script. [The Wrap]

• Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) will replace Timothy Olyphant in the drama The Man on Carrion Road about a border town sheriff investigating a drug deal gone wrong. Gonzalo López-Gallego (Apollo 18, Open Grave) is set to direct.

• Ethan Hawke (Before Midnight) will star in Alejandro Amenábar’s (The Sea Inside) secretive genre project Regression. According to producer Fernando Bovaira it promises to be a suspenseful story that will play “with our deepest primal fears to make us feel once again both profoundly human and extremely vulnerable.” [Variety]

• Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre on Game of Thrones, has joined the Blumhouse thriller Incarnate, starring Aaron Eckhart as an exorcist who can see the subconscious of his patients. Van Houten will play the mother of the possessed boy in the Brad Peyton-directed pic. [THR]

• Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) is in negotiations to star in the thriller The Disappointments Room for Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso about a haunted country manor Beckinsale’s character has retreated to with her husband and son. Stoker’s Wentworth Miller penned the script.
