What the frack?

In a strange convergence of cult worlds, Battlestar Galactica‘s Callum Keith Rennie has joined the ever-expanding cast of Fifty Shades of Grey to play the part of Anastasia’s (Dakota Johnson) stepfather, Ray Steele. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

The U.K. native, who played the part of Leoben Conoy on Battlestar Galactica, has recently been tending toward recurring television roles in shows like The Killing and Californication, but he has appeared in a number of Hollywood pics, including Mememto, eXistenZ, and Blade: Trinity.

In the racy, bestselling novel, Ray is a key figure in Anastasia’s life. He’s the one who teaches her self-defense, and who she considers to be her “real father,” despite having subsequently divorced her, mother Carla (Jennifer Ehle).

Fifty Shades of Grey seduces its way into theaters on Feb. 13, 2015.
