You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country-grown morality out of the girl…or something like that.

Carrie Underwood was well aware of the risk she was taking by stepping into the habit most famously worn by Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music Live!, so we thought she might just stay mum on the various opinions thrown her way.

Some critiques were fun:

I’m glad Carrie wore her sensible pumps for the hike to Switzerland. #Phew #SoundofMusic #WeOut

Some critiques were vague:

Ok, so some of the acting is pretty bad, but you can’t have everything. #TheSoundOfMusic

But most (from non-verified Twitter accounts and Von Trapp children alike) went straight for the jugular regarding Underwood’s less-than-fluid acting debut. The influx of hate must have finally gotten to her, because the crooner finally took to Twitter with a New Testament-style message for those who had nothing nice to say.

Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight… 1 Peter 2:1-25

That’s gon’ be one long prayer, girl; godspeed.
