SI Swimsuit Issue cover girls reunite for 50th anniversary party

When Sports Illustrated celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Swimsuit Issue on Tuesday night, some of the most famous SI cover girls showed up to celebrate.

The first time she landed the cover in 1999 she went by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos — because she was married to actor John Stamos — but by her second appearance in 2006, Rebecca Romijn had dropped the hyphen and was dating actor Jerry O’Connell.

In 1996, Tyra Banks became the first African American woman to appear on the cover of the Swimsuit Issue. The following year, she scored a second cover and became the first African American woman to appear on the cover of the Victoria’s Secret catalog.

Heidi Klum‘s title was upgraded to supermodel after her she landed the cover in 1998. The German stunner’s photo appeared as an inset on the All-Stars cover in 2006.

For Kate Upton, being on the cover of the 2012 Swimsuit Issue was both a blessing and a curse.

“I felt terrible about myself for a solid month. Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something,” she told the Christian Post. Still, that didn’t stop her from booking the cover again in 2013.

Christie Brinkley graced back-to-back-to-back covers in ’79, ’80, and ’81. (Elle Macpherson holds the record for the most cover appearances with 5.) The 59 year-old Brinkley gave the younger models a run for their money on the red carpet at the Swimsuit Issue anniversary bash.
