Casting Net: Benedict Cumberbatch joins military thriller

• Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) is attached to star in Blood Mountain, a thriller from director Sergei Bodrov about a military contractor whose team is ambushed, leaving him solely responsible for bringing a terrorist to safe grounds. The Morocco shoot is supposed to begin in April. Cumberbatch’s Alan Turning biopic The Imitation Game is currently in post production, and he’s also attached to star in the adaptation of The Lost City of Z. [Variety]

Fresh off her Sundance debut as a Guantanamo Bay guard, Kristen Stewart is on board to play Julianne Moore’s daughter in the drama Still Alice, an adaptation of Lisa Genova’s novel.Moore will play a famous neuroscientist who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and then begins to bond with her youngest daughter Lydia (Stewart). Alec Baldwin and Kate Bosworth have also joined the film, which will be directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (Quinceañera).[Screen Daily]

• A cabal of comedy stars have joined the voice cast of the raunchy animated pic Sausage Party, including Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, Nick Kroll, and David Krumholtz. The adult comedy follows a sausage that’s fallen out of a shopping cart and must find his way back to the correct aisle. Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan are set to direct. [The Wrap]

Star Trek star Chris Pine is attached to star in director David Gordon Green’s thriller The Line, about a patrol agent who becomes the caretaker of a young child who lost his parents in a cartel shootout. [THR]

• David Oyelowo (Lee Daniels’ The Butler) has joined J.C. Chandor‘s A Most Violent Year, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. [THR]

• Liana Liberato (Stuck in Love) will play a young Michelle Monaghan in The Best of Me, an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel. James Marsden recently joined the cast as well in the lead — a part originally intended for Paul Walker. Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) is set to direct. [Deadline]

Argo’s Bob Gunton recently joined the in-production Chilean miner drama, The 33. [Deadline]
