'Inside Amy Schumer': Paul Giamatti is God and Amy has herpes

Inside Amy Schumer returns to Comedy Central on April 1, but you’d be a fool to wait that long to see a sketch from the new season. And not just any sketch. One involving God. And herpes. And jean shorts.

In the season 2 premiere, Amy finds out that she might have an STD and prays hard to God that it isn’t so. When the Supreme Being does appear, he’s not entirely thrilled with this self-absorbed soul. Let us also mention that he is portrayed by… Oscar-nominated actor Paul Giamatti. “We thought, ‘Who would be the funniest person to play God?’ And immediately we were like, ‘Paul Giamatti,'” Schumer tells EW. “And then we were like, ‘Yeah, John Adams is not going to do this.’ But I was walking in Manhattan with my sister and she hits my arms so hard and I say, ‘What???’ and she points at Paul Giamatti crossing the street. So I took a deep breath and walked up to him and I was like, ‘Hi, we wrote a sketch about a herpes scare and we would love it if you would play God and I’m, like, bargaining with you not to give me herpes. Can I email it to you?’ I emailed it to him, and by the grace of the other God, he said yes.”

Fair to say that this bit contains a less-than-traditional take on the Creator. “You’ll be surprised to learn of God’s preferences, wardrobe and other,” teases Schumer. Also, stay tuned through the end of the episode for a special outtake. “There may or may not be an unscripted major make-out sesh,” she hints.
