UPDATE: I’ve added a couple of bullet points from the episode below. Beware of spoilers!

After 206 stories, hundreds of laughs, some epic musical moments, many tears, several slaps, and a pineapple, we’ve finally reached the end of Ted Mosby’s epic tale.

The final hour of How I Met Your Mother kicks off at 8 p.m. ET, and once it’s over, I hope you’ll come back here to read our full recap, posting later tonight.

Until then, comment below with your thoughts as the episode progresses and enjoy this pilot flashback (because for the HIMYM finale, a flashback just seems appropriate)…

INT. 2030 – LIVING ROOM

(NARRATOR, DAUGHTER, and SON)

TWO TEENAGERS LOOK INTO THE CAMERA AS THE NARRATOR SPEAKS.

NARRATOR (O.S.)

Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story — the story of how I met your mother.

SON

Are we being punished for something?

NARRATOR

No.

DAUGHTER

Yeah, is this going to take a while?

NARRATOR

Yes.

…but it’s going to be legendary.

UPDATE — Here’s what you missed:

+ Robin and Barney divorced.

+ Ted DIDN’T move to Chicago because he met the Mother.

+ Ted and the Mother had to fast track their wedding because she got pregnant.

+ Speaking of babies, Barney had one (a girl) with a random girl after divorcing Robin. And it changed everything.

+ Marshall passed up his judgeship for Lily…but he eventually got the call again. He became a judge. (Which we knew would happen, but it was nice to see.)

+ After the divorce, Robin’s relationship with the gang suffered greatly. It was tough to watch.

+ The Mother’s name is Tracey McConnell. CALLED IT.

+ “I kept this story short, and to the point and you still missed it.” — words Future Ted actually said.

+ The mother died

+ …and six years later, Ted’s children gave him their permission to ask out “Aunt Robin.” So that’s what Ted did…by showing up to her apartment window holding a blue French horn. THE blue French horn.

So…what did you think?
