'How I Met Your Mother' finale cut a Robin Sparkles performance

One person missing from Monday’s How I Met Your Mother finale? Robin Sparkles.

Many fans were hoping for an encore performance from Robin’s Canadian pop star, but it wasn’t meant to be. But — as How I Met Your Mother prop guru David Baker showed on Twitter — a musical moment was shot: Wearing a jean jacket over her wedding dress, Robin channeled Ms. Sparkles and broke out her first hit, “Let’s Go to The Mall,” at her wedding reception, complete with The Mother on bass. (Pause for a moment and ponder the cuteness — and the inevitable heartbreak.)

Other moments cut from the hour-long finale? Baker said other scenes included an introduction to Barney’s woman #31, a story about that dang pineapple, and a moment between Ted and Robin. Alyson Hannigan separately revealed on Twitter that a scene discussing Lily owing Marshall money (because Ted and Robin ended up together) was also cut. (EW reached out to a rep for the the studio to find out if there are plans to put these scenes on the season 9 DVD, and was told that’s currently the general plan, but specific deleted scenes haven’t been finalized.)

Josh Radnor seemed to be talking about a future Ted/Robin lunch date when he told Vulture earlier this week, “I thought it was a really important scene, and I talked to Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas] about it. I understand why they cut it, but I thought it laid in that Robin had been thinking about Ted all these years more than Ted had been thinking about Robin…It was a scene after they ran into each other on the street. They had lunch the next day. I don’t want to go too much into it because they obviously cut it for a reason, but I thought it was a really sweet and sad and funny scene. It also talked about Robin having a run-in with a bull in Spain.”

Back on Twitter, Baker had more intel to dish: He pointed out that the iconic blue french horn now belongs to Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris got the Playbook and the gang’s MacLaren’s booth (!), and the three yellow umbrellas now reside with director Pamela Fryman, as well as creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.

No word on who got Robin Sparkles’ sidekick robot.
