SundanceTV’s Rectify — a drama that follows one man’s journey to rebuild his life after being released from death row — left fans with quite the cliffhanger at the end of season 1, and if you just can’t wait for season 2 to start back up in June, you’ll definitely want to take a peek at the two exclusive stills we have from premiere.

When we last left Daniel (I, Frankenstein‘s Aden Young), he was struggling to hold on after being beaten within an inch of his life by the brother of the woman he was convicted of killing before being exonerated. The first photo (above) shows Daniel in recovery on a hospital bed while his mother, Janet (J. Smith-Cameron), looks on. When we last left her, Janet was coming to the realization that her son may not be safe trying to rebuild his life in the small town he left behind when he was imprisoned. Even so, Janet couldn’t bring herself to ask him to leave — could the almost deadly attack that capped Rectify‘s first season find Janet having a change of heart and trying to convince Daniel to start his new life elsewhere?

Finally, our second exclusive image is probably the most perplexing because it features Daniel’s fellow inmate, Kerwin Whitman (Johnny Ray Gill), who, last we saw, was being taken to his execution. Is this yet another flashback or could this mean that Kerwin is actually alive?
