Power Rangers are heading to the big screen

Go, go Power Rangers — and get ready to head to the movie theater.

Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced Wednesday that they’re teaming up to make a live action Power Rangers film.

“The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever,” Jon Feltheimer, chief executive officer at Lionsgate, said in a statement.

The Power Rangers were introduced in 1993, when Haim Saban’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiered, telling the story of five regular teenagers who morph into color-coded superheroes. Since then, there have been two feature films about the Rangers, as well as multiple TV series. (One of them even featured the voice of a young Bryan Cranston!)

Lionsgate isn’t new to tackling beloved franchises: The studio is also responsible for distributing The Hunger Games seriesand The Twilight Saga.
