Casting Net: Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel lead untitled thriller

• Patrick Wilson (Jack Strong), Jessica Biel (The Truth About Emanuel), Imogen Poots (Need for Speed), and Toby Jones (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) have joined the cast of Andy Goddard‘s (Set Fire to the Stars) upcoming untitled Patricia Highsmith film. The upcoming thriller is based off Highslith’s novel The Blunderer. Set in 1960s New York, the novel follows Walter Stackhouse (Wilson), a successful architect who lives the perfect life with his wife, Clara (Biel). Stackhouse’s life slips into chaos, however, when he becomes fascinated with an unsolved murder that forces him into contact with a killer (Jones) and an ambitious detective.

• Ray Winstone (The Departed) is set to take on the role of Pappas, originated by Gary Busey, in the upcoming remake of Point Break, which originally starred Keanu Reeves (John Wick) and Patrick Swayze (Powder Blue). Helmed by Invincible director, Ericson Core, the upcoming reboot follows a young, undercover FBI agent who infiltrates a gang of thieves who share a common interest in extreme sports. [Deadline]

• Octavia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) will star opposite Leslie Mann (The Other Woman) in DreamWorks’ upcoming film Las Madres. The comedy focuses on three unemployed friends who decide the only way to rid themselves of their money problems is to capture a criminal and turn them in to authorities for the reward money. • John Goodman (The Gambler) and Ken Watanabe (Godzilla) will lend their voices to Paramount’s Transformers: Age of Extinction. Goodman and Watanabe will play Hound and Drift, respectively, in the upcoming film that tells the story of an automobile mechanic (Lone Survivor‘s Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter (Bates Motel‘s Nicola Peltz) who find themselves having to deal with the Autobots, Decepticons, and a paranoid government official after they make an important discovery. Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens is set to star opposite John Travolta (The Forger) and Michael Pitt (Hannibal) in the upcoming drama Criminal Activities. Directed by actor Jackie Earle Haley (RoboCop), the film tells the story of four friends who find themselves in trouble with the mob after making a risky investment together. [Variety]

• Dianne Wiest (The Blacklist) and Rosie Perez (Pineapple Express) will star opposite David Oyelowo (Interstellar) in the upcoming indie drama Five Nights in Maine. The film follows the story of a man (Oyelowo) who visits his estranged mother-in-law (Wiest) in search of answers after suffering the tragic loss of his wife. [Deadline]

House of Cards actor Reg E. Cathey has joined the cast of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, playing Dr. Storm, the father of Michael B. Jordan‘s Johnny Storm. Based on the Marvel comic series, the upcoming film tells the story of four astronauts who gain superpowers after being exposed to cosmic radiation. Set for a June 2015 release, the film also stars stars That Awkward Moment‘s Miles Teller, along with Kate Mara (Transcendence) and Jamie Bell (Turn). [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Louisa Krause (Young Adult) is set to star in the upcoming supernatural thriller Ava’s Possessions. Helmed by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead director Jordan Galland, the film also stars Lou Taylor Pucci (Thumbsucker), Whitney Able (Monsters), John Ventimiglia (The Sopranos), and Jemima Kirke (Girls).
