'The Bridge,' Guillermo del Toro drama, and more FX, FXX premiere dates

FX and its younger sister channel FXX announced several premiere dates for new and returning original series this summer, including the second season of The Bridge and the premiere of The Strain from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

On the serious side, the new drama series Tyrant from Howard Gordon (Homeland) about an American family and one man’s reluctant homecoming back to the Middle East will premiere Tuesday, June 24, at 10 p.m. ET on FX. The Peabody Award-winning immigration crime thriller The Bridge will return for a second season Wednesday, July 9, at 10 p.m. ET on FX with returning stars Diane Kruger, Demian Bichir, and Matthew Lillard, among others. Based on their best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same name, Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan will bring The Strain to FX beginning Sunday, July 13, at 10 p.m. ET. The series follows the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City who must investigate an outbreak of vampirism.

On the funny side, the dog comedy Wilfred starring Elijah Wood will premiere Wednesday, June 25, at 10 p.m. with two back-to-back episodes; the show moves to FXX for its fourth and final season. FX will also premiere two new sitcoms this summer on Thursday, July 17, starting with Married at 10 p.m. with Nat Faxon and Judy Greer about a couple struggling to maintain friendship and sanity in their relationship and You’re the Worst at 10:30 p.m., a comedy about what happens when two self-destructive people fall in love.
