Iggy Azalea tops Hot 100 with 'Fancy,' matches Beatles for chart record

It’s still early in the season, but right now it looks the battle for the official song of the summer is being fought (and won) by a single woman.

On this week’s Billboard Hot 100, Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” has landed number one, knocking John Legend’s “All of Me” from the top spot and passing Ariana Grande’s “Problem” in the process.

Of course, Azalea is also a featured guest on “Problem,” and with that song at number two this week, Azalea has pulled off something pretty remarkable: She appears on the top two spots on the Hot 100 with her first two Hot 100 appearances ever, making her only the second artist in the history of the chart to do that. The first? The Beatles, back when they originally stormed American shores in 1964 — “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was number one, with “She Loves You” right behind it.

Having the top two spots on the Hot 100 isn’t as unusual as you might think (Pharrell Williams did it just last year, when Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” both featuring vocals by Williams, owned the top two spots), but Azalea is only the third woman to pull off the feat, joining Mariah Carey (“We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off” in 2005) and Ashanti (for her own “Foolish” and Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?” in the first two positions back in 2002).

The rest of the top 10 features a handful of songs that could take the song of the summer title, including Nico & Vinz’ “Am I Wrong,” which makes its top 10 debut this week, and Jason DeRulo’s “Wiggle,” which takes over number 10 this week. Either of those songs could make a move for the upper part of the Hot 100, but at the moment, it’s Iggy Azalea’s world, and we’re just living in it.
