Just when you thought the violence on last night’s Game of Thrones was rough, Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, confirmed that there will be a new installment of the popular fighting game. The new release, Mortal Kombat X, will be available in 2015.
The announcement was made via Twitter at 6:01 a.m. today and has since been retweeted more than 2,000 times. Shortly thereafter, Boon also tweeted a link to the trailer, which features two lead characters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero, fighting to the death. The result? Almost two minutes of adrenaline-infused, hyper-masculine, fist punching, bone breaking, and blood-spewing action, all set to Wiz Khalifa’s Can’t Be Stopped.”
Ultimately, it is Sub-Zero who meets his demise after having a spear of sorts thrown through his eye and his head chopped off to be pinned up against a tree. Again, very Game of Thrones, leaving us to ask (warning, spoilers!): Why isn’t #offwiththeirheads trending yet?
Good news: Boon also confirmed via Twitter that there will be more characters than the famed duo. Bad news: No videogame platforms have been released yet.
Until then, here’s the trailer, for those who can stomach it:
