Filmmaker Leigh Whannell announced Wednesday on Twitter that Dermot Mulroney will star in Insidious: Chapter 3. Whannell will direct and write the third installment of the horror franchise.

The first film followed Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) as they confronted the demons that possessed their son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins). The sequel told the story of the haunted Lambert family as they attempted to uncover the childhood secret that left them connected to the spirit world. The plot of the third film is unknown at this time, but given its predecessors, Mulroney — who was recently seen in August Osage County and New Girl — is in for something quite different from his previous work.

Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, which produced the first two installments in the series, will produce the third film along with Oren Peli and James Wan. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman, and Entertainment One’s Xavier Marchand are executive producing.

Focus Features acquired the rights to release Insidious: Chapter 3 from Film District; the film is expected to hit, and terrify, U.S. theaters April 3, 2015. eOne will distribute the picture in Canada, U.K. and Spain. Sony will distribute the picture in the rest of the world. Principal photography of the film is scheduled to begin July 7.
