Casting Net: Tom Hardy joins Leonardo DiCaprio in revenge thriller

• After months of speculation, Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy has officially signed on for The Revenant alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Based on the Michael Punke novel, Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel) is directing a script he adapted with Mark L. Smith (The Hole) for a fall 2015 release. The 19th century-set film, which will also feature Will Poulter (We’re the Millers), follows the treacherous journey of a fur trapper seeking revenge against his betrayers. [The Hollywood Reporter]

• Kellan Lutz (Legend of Hercules), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Taryn Manning (Orange Is the New Black), Anthony Edwards (ER), and Edoardo Ballerini (Romeo Must Die) have all joined the cast of the indie drama Experimenter, about famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram and his controversial Obedience Experiments at Yale University in the early 1960s. Michael Almereyda is directing the film, which has already begun filming in New York with Peter Sarsgaard (Blue Jasmine) and Winona Ryder (Black Swan) starring as Milgram and his wife. Lutz will play actor William Shatner in the film, who had played a version of Milgram in a 1976 TV movie, while Yelchin, Manning, and Edwards will all play different test subjects and Ballerini will play Milgram’s best friend.
