Ira Glass isn't so sure he can defend his 'Shakespeare sucks' comments

UPDATE: We asked Ira Glass if he does indeed believe Shakespeare sucks, and this is what he said: “That was kind of an off-the-cuff thing to say that in the cold light of day, I’m not sure I can defend at all.”

The “This American Life” host took to Twitter Sunday evening after watching a performance of King Lear in Central Park to commend the actors—and to insult the playwright. “Shakespeare is not relatable, unemotional,” Glass wrote. “I think I’m realizing: Shakespeare sucks.”
