Joan Rivers is 'resting comfortably' after hospitalization (Updated)

UPDATE (10 p.m. ET): Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, released the following statement to EW: “I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”

UPDATE: Mount Sinai Hospital, where Rivers is receiving treatment, has released a statement: “This morning, Joan Rivers was taken to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she is being attended to. Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”

ORIGINAL STORY: According to the Associated Press, Joan Rivers was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing while receiving throat surgery at a clinic in New York Thursday morning. Chief News Correspondent for E!, the network Rivers’ Fashion Police appears on, posted a tweet Thursday afternoon saying, “Joan Rivers is in stable condition.”

Rivers visited the People offices Wednesday evening to talk with People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle about her recently released book, Diary of a Mad Diva. Her other recent projects include co-starring in WE tv reality show Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? and hosting a weekly talk show in her bedroom, In Bed with Joan.

Rivers’ representatives have not returned EW‘s request for comment. Mount Sinai Hospital, where reports say Rivers is receiving treatment, declined to comment.
