'Veronica Mars' makes fun of 'The Newsroom' in 'Play It Again, Dick' trailer (Updated)

Last month HBO released a very dramatic teaser for the final season of The Newsroom, in which a copier printed script pages, giving viewers a taste of the dialogue to come. Dialogue that’s doesn’t feature lines like “Everyone else is outside at the clothing-optional pool” and “Aaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!” Those, however, appear in the latest trailer for Veronica Mars spinoff, Play It Again, Dick, which expertly spoofs HBO’s Sorkin seriousness.

The Hollywood in-joke nature of the trailer fits given the meta approach of Play It Again, Dick, which doesn’t exactly take fans back to Neptune, California. Instead, the series follows Ryan Hansen, playing himself, making a Veronica Mars spinoff about his character, Dick Casablancas. Other Veronica Mars alums like Kristen Bell (Veronica, of course) and Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls) will play versions of themselves and their Veronica Mars characters. The show will consist of eight episodes, which vary in length between seven and 10 minutes. CW Seed will premiere the first two on September 16, and there will be a new one each following week.
