The North American distribution rights for Alan Rickman’s A Little Chaos, in which the actor both appears and directs, were picked up by Focus Features, which plans to release the film about a landscape designer played by Kate Winslet in 2015. The release date means that the film and Winslet will not be players in the awards race this year.

Though reviews for the film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival as the closing night selection, weren’t overly enthusiastic, Winslet’s work was praised. “Winslet’s mix of grace, gumption and private sadness is the chief reason to keep watching, but she deserves a more dynamic film,” The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney wrote. In the film, Winslet’s character, Sabine de Barra, is hired to build one of Versailles’s gardens. Rickman plays King Louis XIV.

The film will be released in North America March 27, 2015.
