Jude Law claims his share of a sunken treasure in 'Black Sea' trailer

A submarine isn’t exactly the safest place for a fight: As soon as the boat descends, there’s no way out if something goes awry. And that’s exactly what drew director Kevin Macdonald to Black Sea, a film that follows a group of seamen on the search for treasure. “Like in space, if something goes wrong, you’re dead,” Macdonald told EW last year. And from the looks of the trailer, a lot goes wrong.

Jude Law plays the mission’s leader, a man who’s lost his job and his family before discovering what he thinks is a Russian U-Boat carrying tons of gold. He assembles a crew to join him out at sea, and together they embark on their drama-filled hunt. “What happens when one of them starts to figure out that their share gets bigger when there is less people to share it with?” one man asks Law’s character at a point of tension in the trailer. Gun violence, explosions, and floods—all inside the submarine—ensue.

Black Sea arrives in theaters Jan. 23, 2015.
