'Transparent' gets second season at Amazon

Get ready to spend more time with the Pfefferman family: Amazon has renewed Jill Soloway’s Transparent for a second season.

The show, which debuted on Amazon Sept. 26, follows the Pfeffermans, an L.A.-based, Jewish clan whose patriarch, played by Jeffrey Tambor, comes out as transgender. Now Mort is Maura, and her three children, to whom she is now “moppa,” are reconciling her coming out with the turning points occurring in their own lives.

Transparent received rave reviews from critics; EW‘s Melissa Maerz wrote: “This isn’t just the best fall pilot: It’s groundbreaking television.” Amazon is also touting its success with viewers, calling it, in a press release, “the most binge-watched TV series on Prime Instant Video with nearly 80 percent of all viewers bingeing on two or more episodes of the series in the same day.”

Vice President of Amazon Studios Roy Price said in a statement, “It only makes sense to bring the Pfeffermans back next year in season two.”
