In the new trailer for Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, Channing Tatum’s Mark Schultz says, “I spend my lifetime looking for a father, and I have found one in John du Pont.”

Foxcatcher, which has already won acclaim from critics and Oscar buzz thanks to festival stops in advance of its November release date, follows the twisted relationship between wrestler Mark and du Pont, the ultimately murderous heir eager to achieve wrestling glory with the training facility on his estate.

Mark’s words become eerie as the trailer continues to show du Pont, played by Steve Carell, slapping Mark, calling him an “ungrateful ape.” Mark’s brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo), is suspicious of his brother’s relationship with du Pont, who has encouraged Mark to emerge from his brother’s “shadow,” telling him it’s “his time.” There are all kinds of messed up familial relations at play in the trailer, which highlights Vanessa Redgrave as du Pont’s mother, who witheringly tells him that wrestling is a “low” sport.
