New 'Into the Woods' trailer: Now with more singing

While the first Into the Woods trailer was light on the singing, the latest does not disappoint.

The latest look at the Rob Marshall-directed adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 musical prominently features two musical numbers: the famous “into the woods” refrain from the prologue and the Witch’s tender song to Rapunzel, “Stay With Me,” sung here by Meryl Streep. (Some of the cast’s vocals, including Streep’s, were also on display in a recent featurette.)

The trailer makes it clear that a happy ending isn’t a given, which is sort of the point. “I didn’t want this to look like a cartoon world,” Marshall told EW for the magazine’s recent cover story. “It’s not sunny, sunny, sunny—we wanted a sense of danger.” That danger is lurking in this trailer as Streep’s witch sends the Baker (James Corden) and his Wife (Emily Blunt) into the woods with requests for some very specific items that they must obtain in order for her to lift the curse of barrenness she laid upon them.

Audiences also get peeks at the footsteps of a destructive giant, a seductive Prince (Chris Pine), and a suit-wearing Wolf that seems an awful lot like Johnny Depp.

Into the Woods opens on Christmas Day.
