See Julianne Moore in the trailer for Alzheimer's drama 'Still Alice'

Still Alice

Julianne Moore is, by many accounts, rightly at the front of the Oscar race for Best Actress for her work in Still Alice, and now there’s a trailer for the film, which began to play in limited release this past weekend.

Moore plays Alice Howland, a Columbia linguistics professor diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s disease. The movie heartbreakingly follows the brilliant Alice as she deteriorates in front of her husband (Alec Baldwin) and children (including Kristen Stewart). The trailer puts Moore’s subtle work on display as Alice attempts to retain her memories—typing out seemingly simple questions for herself to answer on her phone—even as they slip away from her.

Based on a novel by Lisa Genova, Still Alice, directed and adapted by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, opens wide on Jan. 16.
