The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel probably wasn’t a movie that Fox Searchlight envisioned as a quote-unquote franchise. After all, the 2011 drama was about a slew of aging Brits who move in to a dilapidated retirement home in India. It featured many beloved and decorated British actors—Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, et al—but it certainly wasn’t a film that seemed destined to become a stealth blockbuster, which it did, grossing $136.8 million around the world. With that type of success, another trip back to India suddenly seemed affordable if not downright lucrative.

In The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which opens March 6, Dench, Smith, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Ronald Pickup, and Diana Hardcastle settle back in to their rooms at Sonny Kapoor’s (Dev Patel) charming hotel. Muriel (Smith) is now co-manager and helping the soon-to-be-married Sonny negotiate plans to open another hotel, since the original Marigold is fully booked.

Well, almost fully booked. There’s one room available and two interested parties. One of them is Guy Chambers, played by Richard Gere. Sonny thinks Guy might be the key to his hotel deal; the other residents think he might be the key to something else. In this exclusive clip from the film, Guy makes his grand entrance into the Marigold’s dining room.
