Casting Net: Felicity Jones in talks to lead 'Star Wars' stand-alone pic

  • Felicity Jones is reportedly in talks to lead the Star Wars stand-alone film, though sources tell EW it’s not a done deal yet. Just last week, Tatiana Maslany was tied to the project. The film is to be directed by Gareth Edwards, with a screenplay by Chris Weitz. It has not been announced which character the stand-alone will focus on. The films release date is Dec. 16, 2016.   • Kaley Cuoco and John Krasinski have joined the voice cast of the animated feature Animal Crackers. The picture will follow a family who inherits an old circus and a mysterious box of animal crackers. The current cast includes the voices of Sir Ian McKellen, Danny DeVito, Sylvester Stallone and Harvey Fierstein. Krasinski and Cuoco will portray Owen and Zoe Huntington.   • Ethan Hawke, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Travis Fimmel (Vikings) have all joined Julianne Moore and Greta Gerwig for Rebecca Miller‘s Maggie’s Plan. The film is a screwball comedy that “puts a new spin on the romantic comedy” based on the ideas of the fluctuations of modern love. The picture is based on a story by Karen Rinadi. Production will begin in New York on Feb. 23. [Variety]
  • Nicholas Braun has joined the Tina Fey and Margot Robbie picture Fun House. The film is an adaptation of Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, Taliban Shuffle. Fey will play a journalist and adrenaline junkie who tells the story of her six years spent reporting on terrorism and international affairs in the Middle East. Bruan is set to play Tall Brian, her cameraman. [Deadline]
  • Jena Malone will be playing a lead role in the indie feature, Things You Missed While You Were Gone. She will be starring alongside Lyndie Greenwood, Thomas Mann, Soko and Shane West. Principal photography will begin in the spring in South Carolina. [Deadline]
