On the Books: Harper Lee reaches No. 1 on Amazon Best Seller List

One day after Harper Lee revealed that she would be releasing Go Set a Watchman, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the book claimed the No. 1 slot on the Amazon Best Seller List, and later, pre-orders of Go Set a Watchman itself made the forthcoming book Amazon’s most in-demand title. The sequel, on shelves July 14, will follow Scout as an adult returning to her childhood home to visit her father, Atticus Finch. [Adweek]

Continuing the line of good news for authors, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) announced that they will allow self-published and independent publishers to receive press credits for Active and Associate members. “Writers write. Professional writers get paid a decent amount for what they write. For the past five years it’s been apparent that there are ways to earn that decent amount that were not being covered by our previous qualification standards,” said SFWA president Steven Gould. Changes take place March 1, the same day they will also be accepting applications from qualifying members. [Adweek]
