Scott Steindorff acquires rights to 'Station Eleven,' EW's 2014 Best Fiction Book of the Year

Scott Steindorff, producer of Chef and the upcoming Jane Got a Gun, has acquired the film and TV rights to Emily St. John Mandel’s bestselling novel, Station Eleven.

The book, which made it to the top of EW‘s 10 Best Fiction Books of 2014 list, will be produced by Steindorff and Dylan Russell, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The novel is a post-apocalyptic drama that tells the story of a virus that killed 99 percent of humanity and the group of survivors that, 20 years later, perform Shakespearean plays in the desolate towns of North America and those who live in an abandoned airport.

The producers reportedly paid six figures for the option from Curtis Brown’s Holly Frederick, according to THR. There is no talent attached to the project yet, but several directors are reportedly interested.

The book was a New York Times bestseller for eight weeks.
