Casting Net: Nicolas Cage to join Oliver Stone's 'Snowden'

  • Nicolas Cage has joined Snowden, the Oliver Stone-directed film about whistleblower Edward Snowden. Cage is set to play a former U.S. Intelligence Official in the film. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the title as Snowden, alongside Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant. Principal photography on the film has already begun in Munich. The film will be released in the U.S. on Dec. 25. [Variety]
  • Kathy Bates and Danny Glover will join Rachel Weisz and Michael Shannon in director Joshua Marston’s (Maria Full of Grace) first English-language feature. The project was announced in November at the American Film Market. In the film, Weisz will play a guest introduced at a dinner party hosted by Shannon’s character — who grows to believe he knows the guest by both a different name and a different biography. [Variety]
  • Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) has joined the cast of Ali & Nino, an adaptation of Kurban Said’s bestselling novel. Director Asif Kapadia’s love story will star Maria Valverde (Exodus: Of Gods and Kings) and Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), opposite Adam Bakri (Omar). Filming has already begun on the project.
