Casting Net: Dominic West joins George Clooney, Julia Roberts in 'Money Monster'

  • Dominic West (The Affair) will be starring opposite George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell in Jodie Foster‘s Money Monster. In the pic, Clooney plays the host of a stock investment show who makes a bad call on a “hot stock.” An angry investor storms his studio armed with a gun in front of his live audience, and threatens to kill him if the stock price doesn’t return to previous levels. West will portray the CEO of the company that goes under, after the host touted his stock. The CEO tries to hide away in his private jet as the hostage situation unfolds and it becomes clear he is involved in his company’s failure. [Deadline]
  • Lakeith Lee Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) has joined the cast of Snowden, Oliver Stone’s new pic about the infamous NSA leaker. Stanfield is set to play a National Security Administration co-worker and close friend of Snowden’s (Joe Gordon-Levitt). Shailene Woodley and Scott Eastwood co-star, along with Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant. The film is set to open De. 25.   • Virginia Madsen has joined the cast of Joy, the David O. Russell film about Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. The cast currently includes Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro. Lawrence will be playing Mangano, whose many inventions included the Miracle Mop and Huggable Hangers. She began inventing at a young age and made the prototype for the Miracle Mop in 1990. Mangano has more than 100 patents, but the Mop was her first and most successful invention. The film is currently shooting in Boston and will be released on Dec. 25. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Chinese star Zhang Yuqi (White Deer Plain) will star in the new 3D sci-fi adventure, Lost in the Pacific. The movie tells of a group of elite passengers on board 2020’s inaugural luxury, transoceanic flight. The film is set to begin shooting this spring and be released toward the end of 2015.
