Kanye West almost pulled a Kanye West at the Grammys, heading to the stage as soon as he heard Beck won Album of the Year over Beyoncé. Although he headed back to his seat before saying anything, he did voice his opinions after the show: “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé,” he said. And, in a somewhat related turn of events, one Reddit user pointed out this week that Beck’s dad worked on Beyoncé’s B’Day—an album that earned her a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album in 2006.

Indeed, Beck’s dad is David Campbell, a conductor who’s contributed to albums including Adele’s 21—which won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2012—and Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz. And he’s also worked with his own son: Campbell’s string arrangements appear on Beck’s Morning Phase, the record that won him Album of the Year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This information isn’t necessarily news—Campbell’s clearly listed in the credits of multiple muscians’ albums and has been profiled by publications including WSJ for his work—but it does cast a new light on the Grammy controversy (and serves as a reminder of just how incestuous the industry can be).
