Casting Net: Kate Mara joins sci-fi thriller 'Morgan,' Miles Teller boards 'The Life and Times of the Stopwatch Gang'

Kate Mara will be starring in Morgan, a sci-fi thriller which centers on a corporate risk-management consultant who is summoned to a remote research lab to decide whether or not to terminate an at-risk artificial being. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Miles Teller is lined up to star in the adaptation of Josh Dean’s article “The Life and Times of the Stopwatch Gang.” The story follows a group of Canadian criminals who robbed banks in North America in the ’80s without ever firing their guns. They are credited with robbing an estimated 100 banks, and stealing roughly $10 million. It is not clear who Teller would play. [The Wrap]
Josh Duhamel and Alice Eve have joined Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino in the legal thriller Beyond Deceit. Duhamel is taking over for Dan Stevens, who dropped out due to a conflict with Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Duhamel will play an ambitious young lawyer who takes on a big case against the ruthless executive of a pharmaceutical company, only to find himself in the middle of a murder case in which he is the prime suspect. Amy Ryan, John Leguizamo, Olympia Dukakis, Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In) and Juliet Aubrey (The White Queen) have joined the cast of The Infiltrator, starring Bryan Cranston. The film is about a customs and excise agent (Cranston) who goes undercover as a money launderer and helps orchestrate one of history’s most elaborate stings to get to the bankers behind the Medellin drug cartel. Shooting has begun in London and will move to Miami in late April. [Deadline]
Ben Foster is in negotiations to play a villian in Inferno, the next Robert Langdon film starring Tom Hanks. The film will show Langdon drawn into a conspiracy to unleash a deadly plague centered around the epic poem Dante’s Inferno. Foster would play a genius scientist obsessed with Inferno, who has also come up with a plot to solve the world’s overpopulation problem with a virus. Filming is set to star in Europe in April. Kimberly Williams-Paisley has joined the cast of Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip. The animated/live-action film will show the group hitting the road for NYC. Alvin, Simon and Theodore believe that Dave (Jason Lee) is going to propose to his new girlfriend in the Big Apple and dump them, and they only have three days to stop him. Road Chip is set for a December 23 release. [Deadline]

Joel Kinnaman has started filming the indie flick Backcountry. Kinnaman stars alongside Tom Holland (The Impossible), Percy Hynes-White (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) and Rachelle LeFevre (Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn). Kinnaman plays Elliot Baker, who tries to develop a better relationship with his sons when his ex-wife Karen (LeFevre) and her new husband take a vacation and leave the boys with him. What starts as a bonding opportunity turns into a nightmare when they get stranded in a cabin as night falls and a snowstorm rages. Bradley (Holland) and Caleb (Hynes-White) quickly learn more about their father and what they truly mean to him in this gripping tale of family and survival. Production is set to wrap on March 28.
