The finale to HBO’s docuseries The Jinx offered as definitive an ending as a documentary could to whether subject Robert Durst was involved in the deaths of close friends and his wife. But some questions about the full story still linger, and director Andrew Jarecki has begun addressing them.

Jarecki appeared on Good Morning America Monday to discuss Sunday night’s finale and to help clarify the timeline of events. He mentions that it took his film crew more than two years from the time of the interview to discover Durst’s audio-only confession in a bathroom.

The director also discusses the process of deciding when to take this information from the audio to law enforcement.

“We’ve been in contact with law enforcement for the past two years. And so when we finally found that subsequent admission, what happens in the bathroom, we contacted them and said ‘We have something more,'” Jarecki said.
