Kathy Griffin regrets taking 'Fashion Police' job

Kathy Griffin resigned as co-host of E!’s Fashion Police last week—and in a new interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM, she expresses regrets about taking on the job so soon after Joan Rivers’ death in the first place. “I probably shouldn’t have taken the gig,” she said. “She just passed away six months ago.”

E! announced in late December that Griffin would be taking over for the late Rivers on Fashion Police and would host alongside Brad Goreski, Kelly Osbourne, and Giuliana Rancic. Osbourne quit Feb. 27 though after critics slammed Rancic’s comments on Zendaya’s hair during the Oscars, and some speculated there was tension between Osbourne and Griffin. Griffin, though, says that’s not true: “I knew Kelly and we’ve been friends,” she told Stern. “Any sort of quote shade thrown between us was all false and made-up.”

Griffin also encountered critics who made sure to remind her she’s “no Joan Rivers.” “I get it. I never said I was Joan Rivers,” she said. “I’m just trying to be me, just trying to be Kathy Griffin, do my thing.” But those critics should know why Griffin came on board in the first place: “[Joan’s daughter, Melissa] is the one who called me and said, ‘You’re the only person that I feel my mom would have truly given her blessing to,'” Griffin said. “So that was kind of the decider.”
