'GoodFellas' announced as Tribeca's closing-night film

Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, will be the closing-night film at this April’s Tribeca Film Festival. The gritty gangster film, based on Nicholas Pileggi’s book about real-life mobster-turned-informant Henry Hill, stars Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro as three ruthless New York gangsters whose grand ambitions are ultimately stymied by their own character flaws.

“I was so excited to learn that this picture, now 25 years old, would be closing this year’s Tribeca Film Festival,” Scorsese said, in a statement. “Excited and moved. It was an adventure to get it on screen—we wanted to make a movie that was true to Nick Pileggi’s book and to the life of Henry Hill and his friends, which means that we broke some rules and took some risks. So it’s heartening to know that GoodFellas has come to mean so much to so many people. It’s wonderful to see one of your pictures revived and re-seen, but to see it closing Tribeca, a festival of new movies, means the world to me.”

After a screening on April 25, Scorsese and members of the cast will sit down for a conversation at the Beacon Theatre with Jon Stewart—a man who’s prone to imitate the voices of the film’s many colorful characters.

Tickets for the event be available to American Express Card Members on March 23 and to the public on March 28 via tribecafilm.com. The Tribeca Film Festival will take place in New York from April 15-26.
