Casting Net: Lea Michele, Kate Upton, and William H. Macy teaming up for 'The Layover'

  • Lea Michele and Kate Upton will lead the William H. Macy-directed road trip comedy The Layover. Michele and Upton will play lifelong best friends who decide to ignore their problems and go on vacation but find out their plane has been rerouted due to a hurricane warning. They find themselves fighting over the same guy during an extended layover in St. Louis. Macy will also play a role in the film. Production will begin soon. [Deadline]
  • Travis Tope (Boardwalk Empire) is in talks to join Independence Day 2, starring Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher. Tope will play Charlie, though no character details are available. [The Wrap]
  • Billy Bob Thornton and Common are set to star opposite Gerard Butler in the action-thriller Hunter Killer. The story is set beneath the polar ice cap and revolves around a renegade Russian military leader who attempts to push the U.S. into nuclear warfare. Being cut off from outside communication, a submarine commander and a Navy special forces unit must fight the Russian assault and all-out war. Butler will portray the Captain Glass. Thorton will play Admiral Charles Donnegan and Common will play Rear Admiral John Fisk. Shooting will start in mid-July in New Orleans. [Variety]
