Tyler, The Creator announces new album 'Cherry Bomb,' releases video

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE Don't let that goofy expression fool you — Tyler, the Creator gets vicious on his debut

Tyler, The Creator’s Golf Media app wasn’t his only big launch Wednesday night. The 24-year-old rapper also announced the release of his third studio album Chery Bomb. In accordance with the age of short pre-release windows, it’s naturally expected out April 13—next Monday—via iTunes and his always-entertaining Twitter account.

If you pre-order, you can immediately listen to two songs: the opener, “DEATHCAMP”—featuring a relentlessly repetitive, snappy guitar line and generally thin production— and track No. 10, “F*****G YOUNG/PERFECT”—a slowed-down cut and a startling antithesis to Tyler’s all-caps personality, followed up with high-pitched singing to close it out. It’s a sharp turn away from the rapper’s trademark brashness. After the initial album announcement, he thanked collaborators on both songs, including the incomparable Charlie Wilson:

UPDATE: Tyler’s manager Christian Clancy elaborated on the app with The Fader, saying, “It’s a bunch of different things that are original, curated and constantly changing. Original series, content, live streaming, radio, tour stuff, Golf Wang, interactive, and whatever other buzzwords that sound mildly annoying and marketing-like.” Users who download the app Thursday (registering on golfwang.com) will receive the inaugural issue of Golf Magazine, his forthcoming print publication, for free.

Tyler also released a video for “F—–G YOUNG,” which ends with a snippet of “DEATHCAMP.” It’s colorful and idyllic before turning into an Odd Future/Mad Max-type desert race.
