Acting legends Cicely Tyson and James Earl Jones will share the stage for the first time in almost 50 years in a new production of The Gin Game, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by D.L. Coburn.

Set to open on October 13 at Broadway’s intimate Golden Theatre, The Gin Game will be directed by Leonard Foglia and begin previews on September 21. The production will mark the second Broadway revival for the play, which was last revived in 1997.

The two-person play is set in a nursing home, where two lonesome residents of a certain age engage in friendly games of gin that gradually become more intense as they discuss about each other’s families and their lives outside the retirement home.

Past pairs who have notably appeared in the award-winning two-hander include Charles Durning and Julie Harris, Dick van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, and Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn.

Three-time Emmy winner Tyson most notably appeared on Broadway last season in The Trip to Bountiful, earning a Tony Award for Best Actress. Two-time Tony winner Jones was on Broadway as recently as this year, starring in the well-received revival of You Can’t Take It With You.
