Jeff Garlin and Jon Stewart are real-life friends. Not best best friends, as Garlin was quick to remind Stewart during his Tuesday appearance on The Daily Show—Bruce Springsteen and Sofia Vergara apparently rate ahead of Garlin—but good enough that they talk on the phone sometimes. So it’s with that relationship in mind that Garlin arrived on Stewart’s show with a job offer for the departing host: a guest appearance on The Goldbergs.

“On behalf of ABC, and Sony Pictures Television, I am offering you a role on The Goldbergs as my new friend, Toby—that’s what the writers came up with, Toby—Schwartz,” Garlin, who stars on The Goldbergs, said to Stewart. The Daily Show audience started chanting “Toby!”

“And you own a lotion shop that’s next to my furniture store, and you and I talk about things,” Garlin continued.

For his part, Stewart at least seemed interested. “A lot of people have said to me, ‘What are you going to do when you’re done?’'” Stewart said. “And, I’ve had a secret dream, and that is to pretend to be a lotion-shop owner. And for you to make that dream come true… thank you.” D’aww, friendship.

Stewart’s final episode as host of The Daily Show is set for Aug. 6.
