Amy Berg's sexual predator documentary 'An Open Secret' gets U.S. distribution

Amy Berg’s An Open Secret, a documentary chronicling the sexual abuse of child actors in Hollywood, has been set for a U.S. theatrical release in 20 cities beginning June 5 after a screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19.

The Cannes screening for international buyers will be the film’s first public showing since its screening at the New York Doc Fest in November. Back in the U.S. the documentary will open in Denver and Seattle first before further release by Vesuvio Entertainment and Rocky Mountain Pictures.Variety first reported the news.

The film focuses on the rise and fall of Digital Entertainment Network, an early digital network that was allegedly the center of a sex-abuse ring in Hollywood. An Open Secret includes the testimonies of ex-child performers and interviews with former child actor Michael Egan, who was involved in several lawsuits against Hollywood executives last year after participating in the film.

“I am pleased that An Open Secret will finally have an opportunity to screen for a larger audience,” Berg said to Variety. “It’s an important film about an extremely important issue.”
