Orson Welles’ unfinished movie, The Other Side of the Wind, may be released after all. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter an Indiegogo campaign with a goal of $2 million will launch May 7. The campaign will run through June 14 and include incentives such as a limited number of 35mm prints, canisters from the original film and tickets to the film’s premiere.

Filip Jan Rymsza, mananging partner of Red Road Entertainment, will spearhead the fundraiser along with producers Jens Koethner Kaul and Frank Marshall. The three producers reportedly struggled for years to obtain the rights to Welles’ last film, which Welles financed himself with additional backing from the brother-in-law of the Shah of Iran.

Rymsza will piece the film together by working closely with editor Affonso Goncalves (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and director Peter Bogdanovich, who played a young lawyer in Welles’ film. As Rymsza told THR, “We have Orson’s work print that he smuggled out of France, which is a [roughly] 42-minute cut of the film. We’re using that as a blueprint for the remainder, some of which is an in assembly state.” Rymsza and his team also are consulting with copies of the script that include Welles’ notes.

Back in January, the film was said to be on track to be released by the end of the year to coincide with Welles’ 100th birthday, which the world celebrated on Wednesday.
