Manglehorn trailer: Al Pacino tries to unlock his past

Al Pacino is taking it down a notch. The acting legend has been prone to Hoo-aaaah-ing his way through some roles ever since he won his long-overdue Oscar for Scent of a Woman. (See: The Devil’s Advocate.) But in the festival indie, Manglehorn, he plays a surly but subdued locksmith who still carries the heartbreak of losing the love of his life decades previous. As seen in a new trailer for the film, he still writes her letters, distracting him from the people around him, like his son (Chris Messina) and a pretty bank teller with romantic potential (Holly Hunter).

The movie, directed by the always interesting and unpredictable David Gordon Green, debuted in Venice last fall, and opens in theaters on June 19.
