Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 trailer arrives

When Katniss Everdeen returns to the Capitol in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, she’s not there to parade as entertainment for Caesar Flickerman’s audience. She’s there to finish what she started, and she has all of District 13’s firepower behind her.

The new teaser trailer for the final film in the franchise begins with a moment of happiness and celebration, a flash of green in a world of grey—Finnick and Annie’s wedding. But Katniss can’t afford to be distracted, and words are no longer enough. ��Nothing good is safe while Snow is alive,” says Katniss. “Snow has to pay for what he’s done.”

But even as the rebel districts lay siege to the Capitol, Snow is not about to go quietly. “Make no mistake… the game isn’t over,” he says with a grin.

Returning star Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket) had hinted at the trailer premiere via Twitter on Monday, tweeting “We’re just a day away from something special,” adding the hastags #MockingjayPart2 and #Unite.

The trailer’s release follows the reveal of the very first photo from the film last week, which lead actress Jennifer Lawrence revealed on her Facebook page. In the photo, Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) is seen with her trademark bow and arrow on a desolate landscape, with Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) and Messala (Evan Rose) bearing arms in the background.

The last installment in the franchise based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling books follows Lawrence’s character as she leads District 13 in an all-out rebellion to overthrow the Capitol. Lawrence joins returning actors Donald Sutherland (President Snow), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Julianne Moore (President Alma Coin), Stanley Tucci (Caesar Flickerman) in the movie, helmed by franchise director Francis Lawrence (Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1). And though Mockingjay – Part 1 ended with a shocking scene—as Katniss visits an emotionally hijacked Peeta in a holding cell in District 13—there’s still plenty to cover as Part 2 tackles how Katniss grows into the role of rebel leader.

“Those objectives became the motives for us,” Lawrence told EW last year of the decision to split Collins’ final book into two films. “This is where the meaning of the entire series comes into play. The answer to why these books exist exists in Mockingjay, and that’s really been exciting to me. That’s been kind of what I’ve hung on to through these stories.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will hit theaters Nov. 20.
