Family Guy's Jenner jokes: Seth MacFarlane asked about 2009 gag in new interview

Earlier this month, a clip from Family Guy some said “predicted” Caitlyn Jenner’s debut on the cover of Vanity Fair made the internet rounds. When asked about the joke — which occurred in a 2009 episode of the hit animated series — creator Seth MacFarlane said he was “too savvy to comment on the issue to the media.”

Speaking to a group of reporters to promote Ted 2 last week, MacFarlane said he would be happy to discuss the Jenner jokes “once the outrage industry shuts down.”

He added, “Even though I’m on the side of support, I just don’t think there’s any way to … you just got to play it safe because the climate is just too charged. Anything I say can and will be used against me.”

MacFarlane, who directed and stars in Ted 2, went on to say that his personal philosophy is “live and let live.”

“If something makes someone happy, and they’re able to do it — as long as it isn’t hurting anybody — live and let live,” he said.

Jenner came out as transgender in an interview with Diane Sawyer back in April. On June 1, Vanity Fair introduced Jenner to the world with a widely circulated cover photo and interview. The former Olympian also joined Twitter on that same day.

“I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me,” Jenner wrote.
