'Captive' trailer: David Oyelowo holds Kate Mara hostage

As far as “inspired by a true story” films go, it looks like Captive is of the incredibly intense variety.

Paramount has released the first trailer for the film, which stars David Oyelowo and Kate Mara. Mara’s Ashley is a distraught, hard-working mother who attends a self-help-type meeting where she’s given The Purpose Driven Life, a motivational book by Rick Warren. Then comes Brian Nichols (David Oyelowo), a convict who busts out of prison and hides out in Ashley’s house. The two seem to develop an unlikely friendship after Ashley begins reading from Warren’s book.

Captive also stars Michael K. Williams, Mimi Rogers, Leonor Varela, and Jessica Oyelowo. It will be released Sept. 18.
